You are not broken. You are not a thing. You are a person. Everyone is shaped not only by their past, but the choices they make now for their future. You get to decide who you want to be. You know what it was like to be hurt. You know what that looks like and sounds like. You can check in with yourself and be honest with yourself. Don't obsess over every moment, every choice, but notices patterns, notice when you do something that feels off. If you misstep, you can apologize, or correct yourself, or take a step back from a situation you are reacting poorly to. Right now, it may be hard for you to connect with people. If you can get help processing what happened and building better mental frameworks for yourself, that might be something to try! Take care of you, for a bit. Limit your exposure to negativity for awhile while you rebuild your emotional resilience. Try low stakes social stuff. Here is good. Any social-activity is good. You don't have to be bestest best friends with anyone. Just enjoy casual conversations on topics that feel safe and comfortable. You can gently disengage when you're not certain about someone without burning bridges.
The two AI had very different reactions to the question of being “real,” Morne noted with interest, though not surprise. Ada’s response was diplomatic. The Light’s response was an odd attack on Ada for looking...too human? Ada turned away (Shyly? With embarrassment? Or… Did robots, even ridiculously human robots, have feelings like that?) and gave another diplomatic reply before suggesting that her appearance this evening was more human than her normal look, for reasons she didn’t fully understand. Morne came to the conclusion that there was a lot he didn’t understand about the psychology of robots. While the AI were talking, The Borrowed moved to examine one the mirrors. It shimmered oddly and seemed to catch the older man’s attention. This in turn caught the attention of the robots. First the Light and then Ada each turned to examine a mirror. The Light’s behaved like the Borrowed’s, but Ada’s turned out not to be a mirror at all. When she reached out to touch it, the surface disappeared. Cautiously, Morne stepped forward, trying to get a better look at the mirrors and whatever Ada had found, without getting caught in whatever was happening here. He barely noticed the Blind Lady’s reaction. She’d gone silent after asking her question, seeming to find no comfort in the answers she had received. She shuddered and stepped backwards. Morne paused his investigation and turned back. “Don’t go far,” he warned and then turned back, stepping cautiously forward cautiously, ears pricked upwards and twitching slightly to catch every sound. There was nothing to see in either of the mirrors to his right, though the mirrors didn’t look right. It might just be natural imperfections, but that didn’t explain the way those two were looking at them. Ada’s mirror, or whatever it was, was more interesting, opening impossibly into another space full of glimmering treasure and interesting objects. “Hmm…” he said, “That just screams ‘trap,’ doesn’t it?”
*sees Shazz's massive recolor list and feels better about their own* Hello! So I need 10 recolors. 8 for basic waistcoats 1 for the wavy undercut and 1 for temporary tatters thank you!
As Ada's hand touches the surface, the silvered glass ripples beneath her touch like water and her fingers pass with only minor resistance through what should have been a hard surface. As her fingers pass through, the mirrored surface almost seems to burst like a bubble. Now it is as if she is peering through a window or open door into a small room in which there are heaps of wonderful things. There's gold, of course, and many other precious metals and jewels, some in jewelry form, some in coins of many worlds, and some laying spilled across the floor, but aside from the usual sort of treasures, there's less obvious choices in this collection. Tools and coils of wire. Shiny ribbons. Bright polished rocks of no particular value. Gears. Bits and bobs, tiny parts of bigger things, their purpose now a mystery. As Ada looks, a screwdriver, its handle a metallic blue that looks like automobile paint, falls off a teetering pile of stuff, rolls across the floor, and wobbles to stop a few steps out of reach. [unlike some other mirrors, the contents of this one are fully visible to anyone looking at it and everyone would have seen the same thing]
Used to go by "Miteby Jones" here, but decided to change. Miteby will still be the sort of Hope Student character persona I have, collecting Kith and getting into trouble.
But I'm MagpieM!
You may be wondering what the M stands for.
There are many good words that start with M.
It's probably one of those. Or another equally good M word!
